Ian Gilligan becomes Long Beach State’s first All-American in 40 years.

NORMAN, Okla. – Long Beach State sophomore Ian Gilligan joined elite company on Tuesday when he was named to the 2023 NCAA Division I PING All-America Second Team as announced by the GCAA.

Gilligan is just the eighth Long Beach State player in program history to earn All-American honors and the first to earn the accolades since Mike Miles and Bob Summers were Honorable Mention selections in 1983. Gilligan joins LBSU alumni and all-time great, Mark O'Meara, as just the second All-American to earn Second Team honors in Long Beach State Men's Golf history.

No. 14 Gilligan closed out his outstanding sophomore campaign with an impressive 68.88 stroke average to set a new Long Beach State program record in the modern era. He finished the season with four individual tournament titles, while leading the Beach to two team victories.

A product out of Reno, Nev., Gilligan was named 2023 Big West Golfer of the Year after posting nine Top 10 finishes throughout the season. The First Team All-Big West selection was LBSU's top finisher in 10 events this season, and was named Big West Golfer of the Month on three separate occasions.

Gilligan turned in a career-performance in the first round of the John A. Burns Intercollegiate as he fired a 61 to set a new course record. He went on to shoot a career-low 199, 17-under par performance in the tournament as he tied the Long Beach State low 54-hole score.
