Lewis & Clark College announces Men's and Women's Golf Wraps Up Season At NWC Championship Final
WOODBURN, Ore.—Lewis & Clark College golf sophomore Jonathan Westlake and freshman Roberta Moore led their respective teams in their final round of the 2022-23 season on Sunday afternoon at the NWC Championship Final.
THE BASICS
Men's Golf – 9th out of 9 Teams – 672 Strokes
Women's Golf – No Team Score
HOW IT HAPPENED – MEN'S GOLF
Westlake posted his team-leading fourth round of 79 or below to finish first on the team for the round and for the weekend.
The sophomore shot a 79 (+7) to lead the Pioneers on Sunday. With his two-round total of 164 (85-79), Westlake finished the tournament in 36th place.
Senior Eli Jamieson closed out his collegiate career with the second-best tournament score on the team. He posted an 87 on Sunday to finish the weekend in a tie for 37th with a score of 165 (78-87).
Freshman Millen Mistry was one of two Pioneers to post improved scores from Day 1 to Day 2. He shaved off two strokes on Sunday to place 41st (86-84-170).
Freshman Ben Oates notched an 88 on Sunday. He closed out the weekend with a score of 173 (85-88) to end the tournament in 43rd.
Freshman Johnny Pang closed out the Pioneers quintet. He finished the weekend with a score of 112 to post a weekend total of 201.
WOMEN'S GOLF
Freshman Roberta Moore and Ava Frison closed out their first collegiate campaigns with solid showings at the OGA Golf Course.
Moore notched a score of 97 on Sunday to finish out the weekend in 23rd place. She ended the weekend with a total of 185 (88-97) to finish second among the eight golfers whose teams did not register a team score.
Frison capped off her senior season with a score of 157. After being unable to finish her round on Saturday, she came back strong to end her season.
DEEPER LOOK
- Oates and Westlake finished the weekend tied for the men's team lead with three birdies. Mistry added two and Pang recorded one.
- Moore ended the weekend tied for ninth on the women's side with a 3.30 average (+3) on par 3s.
- Westlake wrapped up the tournament with a +1 score (3.10 average) on par 3s to finish in a tie for 5thamongst 45 men's golfers. Jamieson finished just behind him with a +2 (3.20).
- Moore recorded 10 pars and one birdie over two rounds.
- Oates closed out the weekend with a 5.40 average (+4) on par 5s to lead the men's team.
- Westlake's round of 79 broke a tie with Mistry for the team lead in rounds under 80 this season. After leading the team in the fall and struggling to start the spring, Westlake ends the year with a 79 in two of his final three rounds.
- Women's Golf finished the year eighth in the NWC by virtue of their eighth place finish at the NWC Fall Classic. The men's team placed ninth in the NWC this season.
