Lewis & Clark College announces Golf Improves By 52 Strokes On Day 2 of NWC Spring Classic

POST FALLS, Idaho—All six Lewis & Clark College men's and women's golfers improved their scores on Day 2 of the NWC Spring Classic at The Links Golf Club. 

 
THE BASICS
 
Men's Team – 9th out of 9 – 675 Strokes 
Women's Team – No Team Score 


HOW IT HAPPENED
 
Freshmen Ben Oates and Roberta Moore each shaved off more than 10 strokes off their scores from Saturday on a more temperate day in Idaho. 
 
Freshmen Millen Mistry and sophomore Jonathan Westlake led the way for men's golf. The pair each finished with a 79 (+7). Mistry wrapped up his weekend in a tie for 30th place with a score of 162. Westlake put together his best weekend of the spring with a two-day total of 168 to finish in a tie for 37th. 
 
Oates turned in a collegiate-best round of 80 (+8) on Sunday. Oates capped off the weekend with a score of 172 to end the weekend in a tie for 40th. 
 
Freshman Johnny Pang shaved off three strokes from his Saturday score to notch an 85. Pang wrapped up the weekend with a score of 173 to finish 42nd. 
 
On the women's side, Moore improved her score by 18 strokes with an 88 (+15). She capped off the weekend in 30th place with a score of 194. 
 
Freshman Ava Frison shaved off five strokes from her Day 1 score to finish with a 137. Frison ended the weekend with a score of 279 to place 37th. 


BY THE NUMBERS

  • Between the six golfers, Lewis & Clark improved their collective score by 52 total strokes. 
  • Oates broke his previous collegiate-best round score by one stroke. Oates shot an 81 in the second round of the Willamette Valley Cup (March 19). 
  • Moore's round of 88 is tied for her second-best collegiate round. She has now shot 88 or below in two of her last three rounds.
  • The men's team finished Sunday's round with a score of 323. That score is tied for the second-best round by the Pioneers this season (Pacific University Fall Opener Round 2 – September 18). 
  • Sunday marked the second time this season that men's golf had three players shoot an 80 or below. The Pios also accomplished the feat in the second round of the Pacific Fall Opener. 
  • Westlake posted his lowest round of the spring on Sunday (79). He and Mistry are now tied for the team lead with three rounds in the 70s. 
  • Moore posted six pars on Sunday to finish the weekend with seven total. 
  • Mistry (16) and Westlake (15) led the men's team in pars, while Pang, Mistry and Oates finished tied for first with two birdies apiece. 
  • Moore has led the women's team at both NWC Tournaments this season. 
  • Westlake and Mistry have finished in the top two on the men's team in both of the NWC Tournaments this year.
