BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Fifth-year first baseman and right-handed pitcher Casey Rother was selected as the Patriot League Pitcher of the Week for his performance on the mound during the opening series at Bethune-Cookman this past weekend.

"Casey was outstanding in his outing on opening day," noted head baseball coach Sean Leary.

Rother threw three innings and struck out five batters while earning the save in the Mountain Hawks' win over Bethune-Cookman in the season opener. He faced nine Wildcats, fanned five, and got three ground outs and one flyout in his debut on the mound.

Offensively, Rother finished the weekend going 3-for-12 (.250) at the plate with two home runs and a double for two RBIs. With a hit in each game this weekend, he extended his hit streak to 23 games and is now tied for fourth all-time in career home runs with 19.

"Amazingly, he had just tied the game with a home run and then he goes to the mound and works out of a 2-on and no-out jam.  And from there he locked down another 6 outs to secure the win. He truly put the team on his back to lead us to that win," concluded Leary.

Next, the Mountain Hawks will travel to Charleston, S.C. for a three-game series with The Citadel Feb. 24-26. Friday's game is slated for 3 p.m.
