Lehigh University announces Kohl Tabbed as Patriot League Player of the Week

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh sophomore right fielder Andrew Kohl was selected as the Patriot League Player of the Week for his performance against The Citadel this past weekend, announced by the league Tuesday afternoon. Fifth-year pitcher Luke Rettig also was named an honorable mention.
 
"Andrew has had a tremendous start to the season," head baseball coach Sean Leary noted.
 
Kohl went 6-for-11 in the series at The Citadel, hitting .545 with two home runs, two doubles, five RBIs and four runs scored. He had a slugging percentage of 1.273 and an on-base percentage of .643 and his OPS is at almost 1.900 for the series. In the series' first game, Kohl produced three hits with three RBIs, a double, and a homer. He then scored three runs with a solo home run in game two and followed that up with two hits, a double, one RBI and an intentional walk to close out the series. Defensively, Kohl recorded five putouts in five chances in the outfield against The Citadel for a perfect fielding percentage.
 
"He's consistently driving the baseball and has come through with a number of clutch hits for us.   He's also been playing terrific defense in right field," concluded Leary.
 
Kohl leads the Mountain Hawks with a .417 batting average, eight RBIs and three home runs. He has a slugging percentage of .958 and an OPS of 1.439 which are also team highs.
 
The left-handed fifth-year Luke Rettig garnered an honorable mention for his start in game two of the series against the Bulldogs. He threw 4.1 innings and struck out three batters while earning his first win of the season in the Mountain Hawks' 19-7 victory over The Citadel. He faced 17 Bulldogs and only allowed one hit, one unearned run and one walk while earning seven flyouts and three ground outs for an 0.00 ERA.

Lehigh will travel to Princess Anne, Md. for four games next weekend, March 3-5, with a pair of games against Manhattan College and two games against the host, Maryland Eastern Shore. The first game is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 5 at the Parker Athletic Complex.
