Le Moyne College announces Jill Dunn's Walk-off Hit Against Franklin Pierce Named Le Moyne Play Of The Week, Presented By Mcneil & Co.
From April 24, 2023 post.
Senior outfielder Jillian Dunn's (Fiskdale, Mass./Tantasqua Regional) walk-off pinch-hit single in the bottom of the seventh inning during game one of the Le Moyne softball team's (23-18, 12-8 NE10) Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader at home against Franklin Pierce University on Friday has been named the Le Moyne College Play of the Week, presented by McNeil & Co., for the week ending on April 23.
After Le Moyne took a 5-1 lead over the Ravens in the second inning during game one, FPU clawed back to take a 7-5 lead midway through the sixth.
The 'Phins cut their deficit in half during the bottom of the sixth via an RBI-sacrifice fly from sophomore right fielder Alyssa Dybacz (Baldwinsville, N.Y./Charles W. Baker), then after redshirt-junior right-hander Laura Bennett (Corning, N.Y./Corning-Painted Post) shut down the Ravens with a 1-2-3 inning in the top of the seventh, the Dolphins loaded the bases with nobody out in the bottom of the inning.
Dunn stepped to the plate as a pinch hitter, and fell behind in the count 0-2. The left-handed hitting senior took a ball outside, then fouled off a pitch, then took another ball and fouled off another two-strike pitch before slapping the 2-2 offering towards the left side of the infield. The grounder got past the FPU shortstop and rolled into the left field grass. Le Moyne pinch runner Emilee Gallagher (New Windsor, N.Y./Newburgh Free Academy)) scored easily from third while Elaina Kassap (Long Beach, N.Y./Long Beach) got a great jump at second, rounded third base hard and slid across the plate to score the winning run.
Following a split with Franklin Pierce (No. 5 in East Region Poll) on Friday, the Dolphins claimed two conference victories over Saint Michael's on Saturday as the program celebrated Senior Day at the Le Moyne Softball Complex prior to the final home doubleheader of the regular season.
The Dolphins are currently in sixth place in the NE10 Standings, and will return to action on Friday with a doubleheader against first-place Adelphi University (35-6, 15-3 NE10) in Garden City. The Panthers are ranked #15 in the most recent NFCA Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll, and #1 in the East Region Poll.
