Lakeland University Announces Lakeland Christens Track & Field Season at Ripon Red Hawk Opener

RIPON, Wis. – Freshman Emma Ziepke (Manawa, Wis.) recorded a pair of top-10 finishes in sprinting events to lead the Lakeland University men's and women's indoor track & field teams in their opening event of the season at the Red Hawk Opener hosted by Ripon College Saturday.

Ziepke finished sixth in the women's 400 meters, crossing in a time of 1 minute, 7.71 seconds. She also placed ninth in the 800 with a time of 2:47.23.

Dakota Aschenbach (So.-Sheboygan Falls, Wis.) posted the best finish for the Muskies men's team. Aschenbach finished sixth in the high jump at 5 feet, 5 3/4 inches (1.67 meters).

Sahara Gardner (Jr.-Kewaunee, Wis.) also competed in shorter sprints and finished 11th in the women's 60-meter dash (9.03) and 12th in the 200 (31:19). Travis Eitel (Jr.-Pine Island, Minn.) placed 14th in the men's 400 with a time of 56.31.

Lakeland next will compete at the Red Hawk Invite again hosted by Ripon Saturday, Feb. 4.
