From March 21, 2023 post.
Lakeland University junior Skylar Hall (Negaunee, Mich.) was recognized for her outstanding work on the Muskies' spring break trip last week as she was named the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week, announced Tuesday by the conference.
Hall received the honor for the first time in her Muskies career after finishing with a 4-1 record and a 1.03 earned run average in five games in Florida, throwing five complete games including one shutout. She allowed just 15 hits and five earned runs in 34 innings, striking out 41 batters on the trip.
Hall pitched a one-hitter in a complete game win over Augsburg (Minn.) University last week Monday, and allowed just two hits each in wins over Roger Williams (R.I.) University March 12 and Beloit College last Tuesday. She also struck out a career-high 12 in Lakeland's 11-1, six-inning win over Oswego State (N.Y.) University on Thursday, and over the week led the Muskies to a 7-3 record on their spring trip.
Including Lakeland's February doubleheader against the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, Hall is 4-2 this season with a 1.23 ERA. She has thrown complete games in each of her six outings, allowing 19 hits and nine runs (seven earned) over 40 innings with 47 strikeouts.
Hall also ranks among the NACC leaders in a host of categories, including leading the conference in opposing batting average (.143) and tied for the lead in complete games. She also is tied for second in the conference in strikeouts, ranks third in innings pitched and fewest runs allowed and is fourth in earned run average.
Hall is the first Lakeland softball player to receive conference weekly honors since Hannah Hornsby was named the NACC North Division Position Player of the Week March 14, 2021. She is the first Muskie pitcher to receive a weekly award since Leah Binsfeld was named the NACC Pitcher of the Week March 31, 2019.
The Muskies are scheduled to return to action Saturday, March 25 to host Mount Mary University for a non-conference doubleheader at home starting at 1 p.m.
