Johnson & Wales University announces Wildcats take two in Florida to open season

AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The Johnson & Wales (RI) University softball team opened the 2023 campaign with wins over Hiram College and Thomas (ME) College Sunday at the Auburndale Sports Complex.

Game One: JWU 4, Hiram 3Sophomore Mackenzie Clee drove in two runs and drew two walks, junior Hailey Erickson laced an RBI single, and senior Meaghan Gurska smacked a solo home run and scored twice to lift the Wildcats to a win in their season-opener. Graduate student Jill Pulek collected two hits in support of sophomore starter Katie Scheid, who allowed six hits and three runs to go with three walks and four strikeouts in seven innings of work.

Game Two: JWU 4, Thomas (ME) 1

Junior Julia Huzi and freshman Mady Lyons each plated a pair of runs for the Wildcats. Junior Sage Borkowski scattered three hits and allowed one run over seven innings with one walk and three K's.
