John Jay College announces Jailene Santiago Earns CUNYAC Softball Player of the Week Honors

New York, NY - The City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) announced on Monday afternoon that graduate pitcher Jailene Santiago of the John Jay softball team was named Player of the Week.

For the Albany, NY native, it marks her first accolade in a Bloodhound uniform. 

Santiago had an impressive four-game span this past week, batting a robust .938 while slugging 1.438. For the week, she went 15 for 16 at the plate with six runs scored, clubbed two home runs and drove in nine RBIs. 

In game one against Mount Saint Vincent back on March 21, she went 4 for 4 with two RBIs and connected on a home run. In the nightcap against the Dolphins, she added two more hits, a run scored and recorded her first steal of the season. 

In the opener against Yeshiva last Friday, she continued her torrid stretch at the plate, going 5 for 5 with a home run, three runs scored while driving in five RBIs. 

Inside the circle, she was equally dominate, tossing a total of 9.2 innings, in which she didn't allow a run, or a hit. She gave up three walks and struck out a total of 17 batters. 

In the second game against Mount Saint Vincent, she narrowly pitched a no-hitter, allowing just two singles late without giving up a run and striking out nine batters. In the second game at Yeshiva, she tossed three scoreless innings, fanning seven in earning the win. 

Santiago and the Bloodhounds conclude their series against Cairn this afternoon before heading to New Jersey City University tomorrow afternoon.
