Ithaca College announces Four From Baseball Named CSC Academic All-District
ITHACA, N.Y. – College Sports Communicators (CSC – formerly CoSIDA) released its Academic All-District honorees for baseball and softball on May 16. For Ithaca College and its baseball program, four members of the team were recognized. These four will now move forward to Academic All-America voting, which will be released in early June.
Matt Fabian is a senior utility player from Toronto, Ontario and has a 3.61 GPA in athletic training. Fabian has appeared in 33 games this season with 30 starts. He is batting .313 with 35 hits, 25 runs, 20 RBI and eight doubles. He has also reached base 24 times by way of walk or hit by pitch, to account for a .431 on-base percentage.
Gil Merod, a senior catcher from Ithaca, N.Y., has obtained a 3.89 GPA in architectural studies. Merod has started 40 of 42 games behind the plate for the Bombers this season. He is hitting .303 with 18 RBI and 26 runs scored. Merod has drawn 11 walks and has struck out just eight times in 142 at bats. Defensively, he has committed just four errors in 330 attempts and has thrown out 12 runners in 35 stolen base attempts.
Kyle Lambert is a senior pitcher from Albany, N.Y. and owns a 3.75 GPA in business administration. Lambert has posted back-to-back seasons of 96 strikeouts to own the top two spots on the single season list. This year, he is 7-2 with a 2.87 ERA in 87.2 innings pitched. Lambert has tossed two completed games and combined on two shutouts, while holding his opposition to a .243 average.
Colin Shashaty has served as IC's designated hitter for a majority of this season and is from Northport, N.Y. He owns a 3.79 GPA in sports media and is a junior at IC. Shashaty leads the team with a .494 average with 41 hits in 83 at bats, to go along with 12 stolen bases, 25 runs and 21 RBI.
