Husson University announces Dowling, Whitten earn event wins, women’s track & field places second at Monks Invitational

STANDISH, Maine — The Husson University women's track & field team put together a second-place showing at the Monks Invitational hosted by Saint Joseph's College of Maine on Saturday. 

 
Sophomore Ava Dowling and senior Willow Whitten headlined the Eagles impressive afternoon, Dowling won the 5,000 meters with a time of 19:26.60 and Whitten claimed the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:11.82 to help Husson beat Colby College by .75 points for second place. 
 
The Eagles put together a solid overall team performance aided by freshman Addi Laslie finishing seventh in the 200-meter dash with a time of 28.30 and third in the 400-meter dash with a mark of 1:04.87. While fellow freshman Madalynn Hubbard finished fourth in the 400 meters with a time of 1:05.40.
 
Junior Miranda Dunton finished third in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 5:30.10, while freshman Angelina Cotoni also posted a third-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 17.48. Whitten finished fifth in the event with a 17.77, while freshman Alexis Freeman placed sixth (17.84) and freshman Niamiah Perry (17.93) and senior Norah Garvey (18.35) both placed in the event.
 
Garvey would also finish third in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:13.57 further displaying the Eagles impressive event depth. 
 
Freshman Grace Bedore finished second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a 14:03.85, while junior Emma Abbott finished fifth with a 14:22.87 and senior Isabelle Jackson placed sixth with a 14:42.54.
 
The Eagles 4x100 relay team of Cotoni, Laslie, Hubbard and freshman Johanna Stiles placed third with a 52.51. While the 4x400-meter relay team of Garvey, Hubbard, Whitten and Laslie won the event with a 4:27.83. 
 
Freshman Nina Gregory finished second in the high jump with a height of 1.47 meters, while senior Payton Goodwin finished eighth with a height of 1.32 meters. 
 
Cotoni recorded another top-five performance in the pole vault clearing 2.65 meters to finish third while Freeman cleared 2.50 meters to finish fourth. 
 
Junior Quinn Young finished eighth in the long jump with a jump of 4.45 meters and fourth in the triple jump at 9.89 meters. While Perry also finished top-eight with a jump of 8.90 meters. 
 
Sophomore Aaralyn Scroggins placed sixth in the hammer throw with a throw of 33.36 meters to conclude the Eagles scoring. 
 
Next up for the Eagles the State of Maine Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday in Standish.
