Howard University announces Cox, Jackson Lead Women’s Golf After Day One of the Ironwood Invite

GREENVILLE, N.C. (April 3, 2023) – Howard University women's golf team sits in fifth place after two rounds of the Ironwood Invitational, hosted by East Carolina University (ECU) at the Ironwood Country Club (Par-72, 6266 yards) in Greenville, N.C.
 
HU shot 12-over par (300) in round one, followed by a 2-over par (290) performance in round two.
 
Graduate Kyra Cox (South Salem, N.Y.) and sophomore Kendall Jackson (Pearland, Texas) led the way with top 10 efforts.
 
Cox shot even (72) after round one, thanks to a pair of birdies on holes 11 and 16. Next round, the New York native stayed consistent with another even round. Currently, she is tied for eighth in the player standings.
 
For Jackson, she shot 1-over par (73) in round one despite four birdies. In round two, the Texas product found her groove and finished even par, including an eagle on hole 16. After two rounds, she is tied for 10th overall.
 
Rookie Morgan Horrell (Dallas) stands tied for 16th in the player leaderboard after shooting 3-over par (147) on the day.
 
James Madison (JMU) leads the field after two rounds, registering 6-under par (570). ECU trails the Dukes by 10 strokes (4-over par, 580).
 
Individually, three players sit atop the leaderboard after posting 4-under par (140) on the afternoon: Coastal Carolina's Sara Sarrion; JMU's Kendall Turner and ECU's Oda Sofie Kilsti.
 
The third and final round tees off at 8:15 a.m. Tuesday morning (April 4).
