Houghton University announces Houghton Track Preps for E8 Indoor Championships

The Houghton men's and women's indoor track and field teams are set to travel to Rochester for the 2023 Empire 8 Indoor Track & Field Championships hosted by Nazareth College, Friday and Saturday.

Both teams will look to improve on last year's finishes after each finished fourth in 2022.

"There's really just a pure joy to competing at a two day Empire 8 Championship meet. Our team has historically really stepped up for this meet," said Head Coach Patrick Hager. "One of our main goals is to get as many athletes on the podium as possible (top 6 in their event). It's really fun to celebrate their accomplishments with that type of accolade. There's a lot of history between all the coaches and athletes, who spend entire days together at meets each weekend. That allows for a lot of interaction with competitors that a lot of sports don't experience. I think that creates a really unique environment for the Empire 8 Championships."

Highlander Men to Watch
Caleb Kasper – Ranked 4th in the 5,000m and 3rd in the 3,000m
Malachi Yeager – Ranked 4th in the Heptathlon and 3rd in the Long Jump
Zach Tucker – Ranked 7th in the 5,000m and 7th in the 3,000m
Avery Belanger – Ranked 3rd in the Triple Jump and 9th in the 60HH
Andrew Ryan – Ranked 5th in the Long Jump

Highlander Women to Watch
Amanda Burrichter – Ranked 1st in the Mile and 3k, also anchoring the DMR, which has a shot at 1st
Rachel Domaracki – Ranked 2nd in the 5,000m and 7th in the 3,000m
Hayden Williamson – Ranked 1st in the High Jump
Alexandria Wisniewski – Ranked 6th in the 60HH
Abigail Nuzzo – Ranked 5th in the Pole Vault

Nazareth College's Golisano Training Center will serve as the host site for the event.
