Senior thrower Emma Althouse broke a Hope College women's indoor track and field record for the first time, while freshman sprinter Sara Schermerhorn set a new top mark for the third time on Friday at Aquinas College.

The 10-team meet featured student-athletes from four Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association schools and six from Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference schools.

Althouse (Ludington, Michigan / Ludington HS) recorded a fifth-place toss of 14.28 meters (46 feet, 10 ¼ inches) to surpass Jenna Breuker's 2020 indoor record of 13.84 (45-5).

Althouse's record throw did not surprise head coach Kevin Cole.

"Emma has been working hard to master the weight throw and has improved a lot this year," Cole said. "She has potential for some great throws this year."
Schermerhorn (Traverse City, Michigan / T.C. West) clocked a winning 200-meter time of 25.69 seconds that eclipsed her previous indoor record of 25.81.

The first-place effort was one of four for the split-squad Flying Dutch during the meet. Hope finished fourth with 65 points.

In the 4x400 relay, senior Julile Timperman (Lafayette, Indiana / Faith Christian), Sara Schermerhorn, senior Samantha Schermerhorn (Traverse City, Michigan / T.C. West), and junior Erin Moran (Arlington Heights, Illinois / John Hersey) recorded a run of 4:08.13 to win the event by 20 seconds.
