Hood College announces Mins and Sappe set school records at the Mini-Dip Invitational

Hood College's Jamel Mins (Columbia, Md./Atholton) and Chris Sappe (Ijamsville, Md./Urbana) both broke school records, leading the men's track and field team at the Mini-Dip Invitational, hosted by Franklin and Marshall College. 


Record Breakers

  • Mins broke the record in the 300-meter dash, with a time of 37.32 seconds, placing third in the event. His time cut over a full second from the record previously held by teammate Evan Ellington (Laurel, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti) (38.57) in 2019.
  • Sappe broke his fourth school record of the season. The first-year placed third in the 600-meter run, with a time of 1:24.48. His time cut over six seconds from the record previously held by Jordan Acton (1:30.65) in 2011.

Highlights 

  • Mins and Rell Asamoah (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) both qualified for the 60-meter dash final, with their times in the preliminary round. In the final Mins finished fourth with a time of 7.15 seconds, which is a career-best for the sophomore. The time also is the second best time in school history. Asamoah finished in seventh with a time of 7.25 seconds.  
  • Sappe also placed third in the 400-meter dash with a time of 53.79 seconds. The time is the third-best time in school history.

Up Next

The Blazers will split the squad on Feb. 4. Hood will send its multi-event athletes to Ursinus at the Frank Colden Invitational and the rest of the Blazers will be in action at the Liberty Open.
