Holy Family University announces Men’s Track & Field Shares First ECC Indoor Track & Field Title

The Holy Family University men's track & field team tied Georgian Court for the 2023 East Coast Conference (ECC) Championship, the first in program history, on Sunday night. 

Trailing GCU by two points entering the final event of the evening, the 4x400m relay, the quartet of Kouto Anyika (Philadelphia, Pa./Pennwood), Nafis Zollicoffer (Philadelphia, Pa./Parkway West), Jade Acevedo (Bronx, N.Y./Mount Saint Michael Academy) and Tyler Wesley (Hartford, Conn./Bloomfield) defeated the Lions by over five seconds with a season-best time of 3:22.12 to capture the 10 points and therefore tie the score at 143.

Third place Roberts Wesleyan finished with 89. 

  • Holy Family had four of the top five finishers in each of the jumping events 
    • The Tigers accumulated a team high 24 points in the long jump, led by Nishorn Pierre (Grenada/Jamaica College) topping the field of 22 with a collegiate personal record (PR) mark of 6.94m
      • Javon Bowen (Kingston, Jamaica/Jamaica College) (6.75m) won the silver medal, with Terrence Jones (East Orange, N.J./William Allen/LCTI) (6.58m) and Ernest Robertson (Miami, Fla./Palmer Trinity) (6.47m) placing fourth and fifth
    • HFU then totaled 22 points in the high jump, once again led Pierre topping the field after clearing an NCAA provisional of 2.03m
      • Skyler Salay (Burlington Township, N.J./Burlington Township) (1.93m), Bowen (1.88m) and Jones (1.83m) finished third through fifth
    • The Tigers also accumulated 22 points in the triple jump as Pierre settled for silver with yet another NCAA provisional, breaking his own school record with a mark of 14.97m
      • Robertson (13.40m), Jones (collegiate PR 13.05m) and Bowen (12.95m) rounded out the top five
  • Anyika joined Pierre in capturing two golds as he won both the 200m (school record 22.08) and 400m (50.06), defeating fields of 29 and 14 respectively
    • Zollicoffer (50.89) and Acevedo (collegiate PR 51.59) crossed fourth and sixth for five more points in the 400m 
  • Jones (8.35) and JoJo Smith (Kingston, Jamaica/Edwin Allen) (8.56) posted the top two qualifying times amongst 14 entries in the 60m hurdles, and they would place one-two in the final with respective times of an ECC Championship record 8.30 and 8.36 for a combined 18 points
  • Alex Pawlowski (Allentown, Pa./William Allen) (collegiate PR 2:41.21) captured bronze in the 1000m, with Mike McGerry (Philadelphia, Pa./Father Judge) (collegiate PR 2:42.07) adding another point for crossing sixth
  • Wesley won bronze in the 800m after clocking at 2:03.03
  • Bowen (7.07) and Luckie Tan (Delaware County, Pa./Penn Wood) (7.13) qualified second and third in the 60m, before finishing fourth (7.06) and fifth (collegiate PR 7.10) in the final for six points
  • Anthony Faust (Pennsauken, N.J./Bishop Eustace Preparatory School) earned three points in the distance events after running the 5000m in 16:11.55 to place fifth and the 3000m in 9:32.56 to cross sixth 
  • Brian Dietz (Philadelphia, Pa./Father Judge) (1:07.46) and Shymir Harris (Philadelphia, Pa./Academy at Palumbo) (11.69m) earned crucial points in the 500m and shot put with six place finishes 
  • Miguel Sanchez (Pleasantville, N.J./Pleasantville) (60H, 200m and 400m), Tan (200m, in addition to the 60m) and Hakeem Hall (Philadelphia, Pa./New Foundations Charter) (60H, 400m and long jump) all set multiple collegiate PRs on the day 
  • Mike Correa (Brooklyn, N.Y./La Salle Academy) (mile), Akim Cobham (Philadelphia, Pa./Franklin Towne Charter) (long jump), Ibrahim Forana (Darby, Pa./Upper Darby) (500m), Matthew Davis (Bloomfield, Conn./Bloomfield) (500m), Giovanni Griffin (Philadelphia, Pa./Franklin Towne Charter) (500m) and Zaheer Owens (Pleasantview, N.J./ACIT) (12.78m) all set a collegiate PR as well
