Hillsdale College announces Chargers' Shura Ermakov earns second G-MAC Women's Track Athlete of the Week Award (March 27-April 3)
From April 4, 2023 post.
Shura Ermakov had an impressive indoor track and field season this winter for Hillsdale College.
If the first meet of her outdoor season is any indication, the junior is ready for an even bigger spring.
Ermakov's performance at the VertKlasse Meeting on Saturday in High Point, North Carolina, against primarily NCAA Division I competition, not only earned her a provisional qualifying mark for the NCAA DII Outdoor Championships at the end of the season, but also earned her recognition from the G-MAC, the conference office announced on Monday afternoon.
The junior was named the G-MAC Women's Track Athlete of the Week for the second time this season and the second time in her career.
Ermakov got the honor thanks to a blazing-fast time in her signature event, the 400m hurdles. The Berea, Ohio native took fourth in the event at the VertKlasse, bested only by athletes from NCAA Division I Buffalo, Duke and High Point, in a career-best time of 1:01.10. That mark is not only the fastest time in the G-MAC this season, it's the third fastest time in the event in G-MAC history, and also the third fastest time in all of NCAA DII so far this season. While the mark likely won't be fast enough by itself to get Ermakov to the NCAA DII Outdoor Championships in the event, the fact that she's run it this early in the year bodes well for her chances of cutting down the time and making the national meet.
The junior is no stranger to competing in national meets on relays, qualifying in the 4x400m relay for the Chargers four times in her career to date, as well as once in the indoor Distance Medley Relay, and earning three All-American honors as a part of those races. She's also a two-time G-MAC Champion and part of Hillsdale's school-record holding indoor and outdoor 4x400m relay teams. She'll be a threat to make the 2023 Outdoor Championships in multiple events as the season goes on.
Next up for Ermakov and the Chargers is the Al Owens Invite on April 21 and 22 at Grand Valley State University in Allendale, as Hillsdale continues its push toward end of season championship meets in May.
