High Point University announces High Point Men Finish Day One of VertKlasse Meeting

Several High Point University men's track and field members set personal bests to open day one at the 14th annual VertKlasse Meeting on Friday, March 31st.
Michael Henson posted a new best in the men's high jump, clearing 1.94m to finish second in the B group event. Freshman Alex Constantinou also finished with a personal best of 1.91m to end up fifth in the field. Henson also finished eighth in the men's long jump, one centimeter off his personal best with a mark of 7.04m. Larry Coaxum was 11th with a mark of 6.93m. Other participants included David Caivano (22nd, 6.61m, personal best), and Evan Mills (24th, 6.51m).
James Sandoval had a three-meter personal best in the men's hammer throw, tossing for a mark of 40.40m in the event. Alex Hoffman finished 12th in the event, also just missing his personal record by one centimeter with a throw of 53.85m. Hoffman came back to hit his outdoor personal best in the shot put, finishing eighth with a mark of 16.04m.
In the men's pole vault, Maxwell Robinson and Owen Williamson each set new personal bests while Adam Craig was third with a mark of 4.72m. Williamson finished fourth, also at 4.72m while Robinson finished sixth at 4.57m.
Jake Tarosky led off running events with a runner-up finish in the men's 3,000m steeplechase, just missing a personal best with a time of 9:17.61. Aiden Morrison was seventh in 9:29.69, Kyler Koning was 14th in 9:57.77, and Evan J Mills was 15th in 9:59.42.
In the men's 1,500m run with 120 finishers, Graham Ferguson led a pack of Panthers with a fifth-place finish and five-second personal best of 3:49.31 while Hunter Steinau was 12th in 3:55.10, also a personal best by two seconds. Jake Fiorillo was 26th in 4:00.36 and Ian Miller was 28th in 4:00.71. Other finishers included Spencer Smucker (74th, 4:12.21), Jack LaSalla (84th, 4:17.99), and Ben Dertinger (87th, 4:19.04).
Miller and Steinau doubled back for the men's 5,000m run later in the day, finishing 23rd and 24th, respectively. Miller finished in 15:25.06 with Steinau right behind in 15:25.20. Klaus Mangeot led HPU participants, crossing the finish line in 15:16.23 to finish 20th. Evan Parkerson also ran in 16:38.91 for 60th place.
Up Next: HPU returns to action for day two at the VertKlasse Meeting. Participation running events and field events will begin at 9:00 a.m. while final running sections are set for a 2:45 p.m. start.
