Heidelberg Student Princes announces Dean and Voitko earn OAC player of the week
From April 10, 2023 post.
WESTERVILLE, Ohio – On Monday, the Heidelberg University softball team swept the OAC Player of the Week awards. Pitcher Jessica Voitko and shortstop Emma Dean picked up accolades for the first time after a successful 4-0 week.
Heidelberg swept the weekly awards for the first time since Mikaela Mitsch and Paige Atterholt were hitter and pitcher of the week on March 21, 2016.
Emma Dean, a junior from Pickerington, Ohio, earned hitter of the week. In her last four games, she tallied nine hits on 12 at-bats. Along with that, she marked five RBIs. The two-time All-OAC honoree is currently only five doubles away from setting a single-season Heidelberg record.
For the season, Dean has appeared at the plate 90 times. During that time she has compiled 41 hits, earning 22 RBIs and 14 runs, with a .506 average. She currently ranks second in the OAC for both batting average and RBIs.
Jessica Voitko, a senior from Wadsworth, Ohio, was named pitcher of the week. Last week, she pitched back-to-back shutouts against Capital and Wilmington. In 14 innings of work in the circle, Voitko allowed a mere seven hits and struck out four. With the bat, she also tallied one RBI in the victorious stretch.
After Voitko's gem in game one against the Quakers, Cailtin Dems hurled her own complete game shutout in the nightcap. The doubleheader shutout was just the sixth in program history and first since 2017.
On the season, she has pitched a total of 76.1 innings. With the shutouts, she lowered her ERA to 2.11 and moved into third in the OAC with eight wins.
The Student Princes -- 14-13 overall and 4-2 in the OAC -- return to the road on Wednesday, traveling to John Carroll.
