Hawkins, Odom Earn MEAC Weekly Honors

NORFOLK, Va. – The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) uncovered its men's basketball weekly honors where Howard University saw a pair of Bison earn recognition for their performances against North Carolina Central (Jan. 28) and South Carolina State (Jan. 30). The announcement came Tuesday afternoon.
 
Second-year Bison guard 
Elijah Hawkins (Washington) won MEAC Co-Player of the Week for the second time this season while freshman forward Shy Odom (Roxbury, Mass.) claimed his sixth Rookie of the Week award.
 
Hawkins averaged a double-double (17 points & 10 assists) in the two wins. Saturday, the D.C. native racked up 17 points, 10 assists, five rebounds and two steals against the Eagles.
 
Odom averaged 13.5 points while shooting 73-percent (11-of-15) from the field. He posted 15 points against North Carolina Central, followed by a 12-point effort versus the Bulldogs.
 
Redshirt junior forward 
Steve Settle, III (Howard) received honorable mention after producing eight rebounds, seven points, two blocks and two steals against the Eagles.
 
Maryland Eastern Shore graduate forward Nathaniel Pollard, Jr., shared MEAC Player of the Week with Hawkins. Delaware State redshirt sophomore center Raymond Somerville was selected the conference's Defensive Player of the Week.
 
The Bison will have a break before hitting the road to take on Delaware State in another MEAC matchup Saturday (Feb. 11) at 4 p.m. in Dover, Delaware.
