Georgia Tech men’s tennis player, Andres Martin, has been named the Southeast regional recipient of the ITA Arthur Ashe Leadership & Sportsmanship award.
This prestigious award, which dates back to 1982, is presented to men’s and women’s student-athletes who have exhibited outstanding sportsmanship and leadership, as well as scholastic, extracurricular and tennis achievements in ways that embody the legacy of tennis icon and humanitarian Arthur Ashe Jr.
Martin concluded the 2022-23 season at the NCAA Championships where he earned singles and doubles All-American honors. On the court, the three-time team captain has continued to lead Tech with successful performances that led to him being ranked sixth in the nation in singles. Martin has been an impactful teammate, proven by his No. 30 and No. 53 doubles rankings with two different partners this season.
A two-year member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Board (SAAB), the junior has served as a proper example of a scholar and leader to his peer. Martin has mirrored his success on the court while in the classroom, most recently achieving a 4.0 grade-point average during the spring semester as an Industrial Engineering major.
Serving as a head participant in the Team Impact’s partnership with Tech, Martin aids in the mentorship program that pairs athletic teams with youth who are suffering from major medical issues. His involvement in the community extends further than Georgia Tech. Martin also mentors and teaches free lessons to junior tennis players in his home city.
