Furman Paladins announces FURMAN TO OPEN OUTDOOR SEASON AT RALEIGH RELAYS & WEEMS BASKIN INVITATIONAL

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- The Furman track and field teams will open the 2023 outdoor season Thursday and Friday at the Raleigh Relays on the campus of N.C. State in Raleigh, N.C., and will also compete at the Weems Baskin Invitational, which will be hosted by South Carolina in Columbia on Saturday.

On Thursday, Furman will run in the men's steeplechase at the Raleigh Relays beginning at 5:15 p.m., and the women's 10,000m will follow at 9:05 p.m.  Friday's events in Raleigh include the women's 1,500m and 5,000m and the men's 10,000m.  Select events will be broadcast live on ACC Network Extra. 

In Columbia, the Paladins will compete in the women's 400m, 1,500m, 3,000m, and 400m intermediate hurdles.  On the men's side, Furman will run in the 100m, 200m, 3,000m, 110 high hurdles, and 400m intermediate hurdles, plus compete in the triple jump.  The meet is slated to begin at 10 a.m. and the final event will commence at 5 p.m.

Six Furman athletes qualified for the 2022 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships East Preliminaries last year.  All six of the athletes return this season, including junior Megan Marvin, who qualified in the 1,500m, and juniors Bethany Graham and Madelynne Cadeau, who competed in the 5,000m.  On the men's side, sophomore Matthew Smith returns after qualifying in the 800m, and junior Dylan Schubert is back again in the 10,000m.  Junior Carson Williams qualified in the 3,000m Steeplechase for the second-consecutive year in 2022.
