GREENVILLE, S.C. – Furman's Carson Williams and Madelynne Cadeau have been named the Southern Conference men's and women's outdoor track athletes of the week, respectively, the conference office announced Wednesday.

Selections were made by panels of the league's track and field coaches and included all outdoor competition from April 5-11.

Competing at the Duke Invitational on Friday, Williams turned in the top mark in the SoCon this season in the 1,500-meter run, finishing 11th in the invitational race in 3:44.70.  That time was the second-fastest of his collegiate career and came in his season debut in the event. The junior from Raleigh, N.C., now leads the SoCon in the event by more than four seconds and ranks 34th on the NCAA Division I East Outdoor Qualifying List.

Also competing at the Duke Invitational on Friday, Cadeau, a junior from Cumming, Ga., finished third in the 5,000-meter run in 16:29.99 in her season debut in the event.  Her mark ranks second in the SoCon this season behind only teammate Abigail Robertson and currently sits 49th on the NCAA Division I East Outdoor Qualifying List.
