Furman Paladins announces FURMAN'S WILLIAMS & ARMITAGE NAMED SOCON TRACK ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
GREENVILLE, S.C. – Furman's Carson Williams and Kaylie Armitage have been named the Southern Conference men's and women's outdoor track athletes of the week, respectively, the conference office announced Wednesday.
Selections were made by panels of the league's track and field coaches and included all outdoor competition from April 19-25.
Williams earned his second SoCon honor in three weeks after turning in a fifth-place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at Eastern Kentucky's Rick Erdmann Twilight in Richmond, Ky., on Saturday. The junior from Raleigh, N.C., clocked a time of 8:43.56 in his season debut in the event, a mark that leads the SoCon by nearly nine seconds and ranks 10th on the NCAA Division I East Outdoor Qualifying List.
Competing at the Wake Forest Invitational in Winston-Salem, N.C., on Friday, Armitage finished 16th in the 1,500-meter run 4:20.56. That time is a career-best for the sophomore from Exeter, R.I., who leads the SoCon in the event by four seconds and ranks 67th on the NCAA Division I East Outdoor Qualifying List.
