The football rivalry between Dickinson and Clear Springs added another memorable chapter as the latter rallied for a 38-35 win at Sam Vitanza Stadium on Friday, Sept. 23.

The host Gators appeared in control early by establishing a 28-14 halftime lead before Clear Springs scored 24 of the 31 points in the second half to pull off a huge victory.

According to Max Preps, last season, Dickinson claimed a 35-24 win in another clash between the teams.

"In district, it’s been Clear Spring lately,” Dickinson coach John Snelson said to Prep News Wire about the Gators’ top rival. “Clear Falls is starting to fall into the category, too. In the playoffs, Atascocita and North Shore are tough teams to play.”

Atascocita has been a difficult matchup for Dickinson lately. The Eagles crushed the Gators 37-0 in this year’s season opener and defeated them in the second round of the state playoffs last season as well. Dickinson finished 9-3 last season.

Despite facing such competitive teams especially early in the season, Dickinson (3-2) is well stocked with talent on both sides of the ball according to Nelson.

“We have a lot of really good players,” he said.

Offensively, Snelson cites quarterback John Soloman, wide receivers Marquis Johnson and De’Rion Crooms, running backs Malachi McNair and KJ Williams, along with tight ends Zyon Little and Jeremiah Scoby as notable contributors. Tyler Thomas, Devin Campbell and Rylie Hall anchor the offensive line.

Linebackers Layden Roque, Jontue Fears, defensive backs VJ Glover, Jabari Ellison, Diego Sanchez and Rodney Brimage, plus defensive linemen Tre Ford and Ja’Marcus Anderson power the defense.

The Gators next opponent is Clear Falls on Friday, Oct. 7 at home. Kickoff is 7 p.m.

Dickinson closes out the regular season by playing three of four games on the road at Brazoswood, Clear Creek and Clear Brook. The Gators take on Clear Lake for Homecoming on Friday, Oct. 21 in their home finale.
