Dickinson bounces back with 45-7 win in regular season finale by focusing on 'getting 1% better every game'
The Dickinson Gators were coming off a tough 17-14 upset loss to Clear Brook (1-9, 1-5), but the Gators turned things around against Clear Brook on Thursday with a 45-7 win to finish the regular season 7-3 with a 4-2 district record, according to Max Preps.
According to information provided by Hudl, Dickinson scored on a 21-yard Chance Gage field goal to open the scoring in the first quarter, which was followed up by a John Solomon touchdown pass for 28 yards to Marquis Johnson. Gage nailed the extra point to make it 10-0 after one quarter.
Clear Brook scored on a 31-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter, but this was followed by a 15-yard Solomon touchdown run and a nine-yard touchdown pass to go up 24-7. In the third quarter Johnson ran the ball in from 14 yards and then De’Rion Crooms caught a 38-yard touchdown pass from Solomon. The final touchdown was on a 78-yard punt return.
On the day, Dickinson had 463 total yards, including 249 on the ground and 214 in the air.
The Gators were coming off a demoralizing loss to a Clear Creek squad that had only won once to that point, and prior to the win Coach John Nelson said the team was ready to be back on track.
“We are getting starters back who were sick with the flu and just working on getting 1% better every game,” said Coach Nelson.
This was the second straight tough loss for Clear Brook, who lost previously to Clear Springs 42-7.
