College of the Holy Cross announces Men's Track and Field Competes at Merrimack, Mazzocca Sets Program Record

The Holy Cross men's track and field team tallied 75 points to claim a fourth-place finish at the Merrimack Alumni Classic on Saturday.

TRACK HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Junior Mike Mazzocca represented Holy Cross at the Northeast Challenge at the University of Connnecticut. He set a school record in the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.19, placing second.
  • Sophomore Brian Fennelly placed second in the 110m hurdles with a time of 15.52. He was followed closely by sophomore Josh Exantus in third (15.94) and sophomore Kevin Yatsuhashi in sixth (16.46).
  • Senior Sean Flaherty won the 400m hurdles with a time of 55.57. Senior Cameron Lloyd placed sixth with a time of 57.68 and freshman Austin Poikonen claimed eighth with a time of 1:01.97.
  • Flaherty placed third in the 400m with a time of 50.54.
  • Junior Chris Barone finished second in the 100m dash with a time of 10.86. He was followed by sophomore Aidan Bergin at 11.22, placing fifth.
  • Freshman Nyeoti Punni placed fourth in the 200m with a time of 22.50. Exantus claimed eighth at 22.80.

FIELD HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Freshman Jack Ryan earned third in the javelin with a mark of 47.55m.
  • Fennelly earned second in the long jump with a mark of 6.30m.
  • Yatsuhashi placed third in the high jump with a mark of 1.85m.

NEXT UP:

  • The Holy Cross women's track and field team returns to action of Saturday, April 22. The team will host the Holy Cross Invitational, for the one and only home meet of the 2023 outdoor season.
  • The Crusaders will be celebrating 50 years of Title IX excellence, the first team, and the 2023 senior class. Throughout the meet, Holy Cross will recognize a handful of returning alumni. The day will start with the alumni mile, beginning at 10 a.m.
