College of the Holy Cross announces Fennelly, Mazzocca Named to Academic All-patriot League Team

Sophomore Brian Fennelly and junior Mike Mazzocca of the Holy Cross men's track and field team have been named to the Outdoor Track & Field Academic All-Patriot League Team, as announced by the league office Wednesday.

Fennelly, a native of Hingham, Massachusetts, earned a cumulative grade point average of 3.86. He has been a strong competitor for the Crusaders this season. He finished ninth in the 110m hurdles at the Patriot League Outdoor Championships with a personal best time of 15.02. Earlier in the season, he set a personal best in the 400m hurdles with a time of 57.67 at the Holy Cross Invitational.

Mazzocca, from Walpole, Massachusetts, claimed a 3.30 GPA following his junior year. He earned a silver medal in the 110m hurdles (14.37) at the Patriot League Outdoor Championship. At the UConn Northeast Challenge, Mazzocca set the school record in the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.19, placing second.

The Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year award and Academic All-Patriot League team honor student-athletes who excel both on and off the field. The awards are nominated and voted on by the Patriot League track and field sports information directors. To be eligible for the Scholar-Athlete of the Year award and the Academic All-Patriot League team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and be a starter or key player in his/her sport.
