CCNY's Spencer Boateng Named CUNYAC Coach of the Year; Yassine Sakhi and Dashaun Galloway Named All-Stars

The CUNY Athletic Conference announced the 2022-23 Men's Basketball All-Stars teams and major award winners on Thursday at the annual Basketball Luncheon, held at Giando's on the Water in Brooklyn. For CCNY, Head Coach Spencer Boateng was named the league's Coach of the Year. Junior Yassine Sakhi was named a First Team All-Star honoree, while Dashaun Galloway was voted as a Second Team All-Star. Junior Amir Assani was named to the All-Sportsmanship Team.

In his second season at the helm of the CCNY men's basketball program,  head coach Spencer Boateng earned his first CUNYAC Coach of the Year honor. Guiding the Beavers to their second straight postseason appearance, he led the CCNY to a 16-9 overall record, their best regular season finish since the 2016-17 season, including an 11-3 mark in CUNYAC play. 

"I'm truly honored to represent the CUNY Athletic Conference as this year's Coach of the Year," Boateng said. "It's a testament to the sacrifice and dedication of our coaching staff and players. There's so much that goes behind having a successful program, and their dedication to excellence, leadership and the will to win has been amazing. I'm honored to cast a vision and watch them bring it to life."

Yassine Sakhi - First Team All-Star
Yassine Sakhi earns his third consecutive CUNYAC postseason recognition. He finished the regular season as the conference's second-leading scorer, averaging 18.3 points per game, and led the league in field goal percentage, shooting 48.2 percent. During the regular season, he posted 12 games with 20+ points, including a career-high 30 points on Jan. 20 aganist Hunter. Sakhi also surpassed 1,000 career points this season (Nov. 28), becoming the 10th player in program history to reach the milestone.

Dashaun Galloway - Second Team All-Star
Dashaun Galloway finished the regular season averaging 8.7 points and 6.0 rebounds per game and was the conference's second-leading assists leader with 5.7 per game. He led the league in steals (69). Twice this season, Galloway scored a career-high 19 points twice and dished a career-best ten assists on two occasions.

Amir Assani - All-Sportsmanship Team
In his second season at CCNY, Amir Assani led the Beavers with 8.3 rebounds per game, ranking fifth in the conference. He averaged 8.5 points per game and tallied 31 steals, 23 blocks, and 56 assists this season. He scored in double-figures eight times and had six double-digit rebounding efforts.

The Beavers begin postseason play on Saturday, Feb. 18, when they face #6 John Jay College in the First Round of the CUNYAC Tournament. The game will tip off at 1:00 p.m. at Nat Holman Gymnasium.
