California Community College Athletics Associations announce Wahl adds NATYCAA Scholar-Athlete of the Year honor to already impressive resumé
Former softball standout Savannah Wahl has been named the Relation Insurance Services National Alliance of Two-Year College Athletic Administrators (NATYCAA) Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year, announced Thursday. Wahl is the first Butte College student-athlete to receive this honor.
Wahl, the 2023 California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year, who transferred to nearby Sacramento State University, started at Butte in 2019, graduating with an AA-T in Kinesiology and AA in Social and Behavioral Sciences with a perfect 4.0 GPA. Her efforts landed her on the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-American team - one of nine females across the country and the only CCCAA student-athlete. In addition to her success in the classroom, during the historic run to the CCCAA State Softball Championships in 2022, Wahl was named an NFCA First-Team Cal JC Division All-American, 3CFCA NorCal All-State Pitcher of the Year, and Golden Valley Conference Pitcher of the Year. She led the team to a 43-3 record - the best in the state - including a 35-game winning streak.
Since leaving Butte, Wahl has continued to excel on the field, earning Big Sky Pitcher of the Week honors in early April. She currently boasts a 6-3 record with a 3.61 ERA. She has tossed four complete games, including three shutouts, in 52.1 total innings.
Wahl will be honored at the NATYCAA Awards Luncheon on Monday, June 12 at the annual NATYCAA Convention in Orlando, Fla.
