Binghamton University announces Reifler, Driscoll named to all-conference baseball team
VESTAL, N.Y. - Four Binghamton baseball players were honored in the America East year-end awards, announced Tuesday afternoon. Junior center fielder Tommy Reifler and junior pitcher Gabe Driscoll were each named to first team all-conference. Freshman reliever Dan McAliney was selected to the All-Rookie Team and Reifler and graduate reliever Jack Collins both made the All-Academic Team.
The all-conference honors for Reifler and Driscoll were the first for each player.
Reifler produced a superb season that has him atop all America East hitters with a .377 average. He has produced 19 multi-hit games and at one point reached base safely in 15 straight games. He has never gone more than one game without collecting a hit this season and only has 17 strikeouts in 159 at-bats (once ever 9.4 AB, top-80 in country).
Driscoll led the conference with seven wins (7-1) and ranks fourth in ERA (4.46). He has totaled 65 strikeouts in 74.2 innings and has fanned five or more six times this season. Driscoll began his season with 5.0 shutout innings against now No. 7 Clemson in February. His other signature outings came against Albany, Hartford and NJIT (7.0 IP, 3 hits).
McAliney has made 13 appearances with three starts. He's made five relief appearances in conference play and has 10 strikeouts in 9.1 innings. McAliney pitched three shutout innings with five strikeouts against UMBC and also struck out a pair in one inning at Bryant.
Reifler and Collins were on the 10-player All-Academic Team. Reifler carries a 3.34 GPA in business administration and Collins has a 4.0 in the master's program in public health after posting a 3.72 undergraduate in biological sciences. Collins is BU's first four-year All-Academic recipient.
