Arkansas Tech University announces Hill earns spot in 800m finals and two more Golden Suns receive All-GAC honors at day two of GAC Championships

SEARCY, Ark. - The Arkansas Tech women's track & field team closes out day two of the 2023 Great American Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships with Audrey Hill earning a spot to compete in the finals of the 800m race tomorrow as well as two more Golden Suns receiving All-GAC honors for their performance in the 3000m steeplechase. 

RESULTS

Starting the day off for the Golden Suns was the preliminary round of the 800m race that saw Hill compete in heat one, while Felicity West competed in heat two. 

Hill earned a qualifying time for the finals of the event tomorrow with a 2:18.36 overall time and the fourth best finish in the prelim round. Hills' time in the race also sets a new PR in the 800m race for the freshman. 

West finished her race in the 800 with a 2:21.38 total time. Her finishing time in the race also sets a new PR in the event for the Fort Smith, Ark. native. 

Closing out day two of the GAC Championships for the Golden Suns was the 3000m Steeplechase that had Morganne Browning, Mandy Sykora and Avery Stanley lace up for the event.

Crossing the finish line first for the Golden Suns was Browning who finished third overall and came across the finish line with an 11:16.54 total race time. Following Browning was Sykora who clocked in with an 11:25.71 time in the race for the fifth place overall finish. 

Both Browning and Sykora set new PR's in the 3000m steeplechase for their efforts in today's race. In addition, Browning also earned a spot on the All-GAC First Team, while Sykora notched a place on the All-GAC Second Team. 

Rounding out the group for Arkansas Tech in the 3000m steeplechase was Stanley who came across the finish with an 11:42.72 overall time for the race. Stanley's time also sets a new PR in the event for the freshman.

The Golden Suns will close out their time at the GAC Championships tomorrow, which will be the final day for the meet. Tomorrow's action will get started for the Golden Suns at 10 a.m. in Searcy for the shot put.
