Alderson Broaddus University announces Multiple Top-3 Finishes Come, As Battlers Close Out Regular Season

Bexley, OH- The Alderson Broaddus University men's and women's track & field teams have multiple top-3 performances at the Capital OAC Tune- Up this past weekend.

At the Capital OAC Tune- Up, Cedric Carter had one of the top performances of the day, winning the shot put and hitting a new collegiate best throw of 13.75m which moved him up in the rankings within the conference. Isaiah Jean had himself a day as well, breaking the 7-second mark in the 60-meter dash running 6.99, and placing second. In the 200, Shelton Bass led the men finishing first, as Justice Washington led the women finishing second running 22.41 and 27.72 (converted) respectively. In the 400, Nathan Jacobs and Bellela Colas finished first in their races running 50.55 and 64.92 (converted) respectively. In the 800, Layla James won the race with Jacobs finishing second in his, running 2:24.41 and 2:02.11 (converted) respectively. In the men's 1000, Vernon Smith placed third running 2:54.05 (converted). In the 5000 meter, Adra Schell ran a new PR of 21:13.85 (converted) in a second place finish. In the women's long jump, Justice Washington had a PR of 4.67m and placed second. In the final event of the day, Carter and Jacob Sharp both PR'd and finished in second and third respectively throwing 12.27m and 12.21m.

In the 60 dash the Battlers also seen Calvin Blunt finish in sixth, and Jomel Monpas finishing in seventh. On the women's side, Colas finished in fourth while Shaam Al-Natour finished in seventh. In the 200 for the women, Nykia Fort finished in fourth, Colas in sixth, and Al-Natour in seventh. On the men's side, Jean finished in fourth, while Blunt finished in seventh. In the women's 400, Fort finished in fourth, Washington in fifth, and Desiree Knotts in seventh. On the men's side Andrew Nephew finished the 400 in sixth, and Jonathan Nagalo finished in seventh. In the 3000 meter, Schell placed seventh. In the high jump for the women, Kaylie Laskody placed third, while Fort and Knotts tied for fourth. On the men's side, Nagalo placed sixth, while Cameron Tropeck placed eighth. In the men's pole vault, Greysen Gerth placed fourth.

"I am glad to see a good amount of the team put on a good showing at the last meet of the season this past weekend. It goes to show that overall we have been working" said Coach Paris Vaughan when asked about the performances this weekend. "We have come a long way and it is just about time that everyone puts the training to a good use this upcoming weekend at conference. I am ready to see a different animal out of everyone, and can see that the team is hungry. All I will say is to not count the Battlers out in any event that we have people in, some just might surprise you."

The Battlers travel to Huntington, WV this weekend for the Mountain East Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships. In order to qualify for the meet, individuals have to be in the top-16 within their event, or for the multi be in the top 12. The meet will be held on the campus of Marshall University at the Chris Cline Indoor Athletic Facility. The two-day meet starts on Friday, February 17.
