Alderson Broaddus University announces Battlers Take on Dennis Craddock Coaches Classic
Lynchburg, VA- The Alderson Broaddus University track & field team sent a handful of athletes to compete at the Dennis Craddock Coaches Classic this weekend where many season and lifetime bests were set.
The meet started Friday with the men's hammer throw, where Micah Harrison placed fifth. He had a throw of 44.74m, which would rank fifth in the conference as well. Also competing on Friday was Layla James and Olivia Kqira in the 1500m run. James and Kqira both came out with new PRs running 5:03.62 and 6:18.89 respectively.
On Saturday, Calvin Blunt and Isaiah Jean started things off hot. Blunt ran a new lifetime best time of 10.97 in the 100 barely missing the final, while Jean ran a time of 11.07. In the 400, Trinity Bumbry ran a new PR of 60.30, this also moves her into the top-8 within the conference. In the 800, Nathan Jacobs broke the school record by 1-second, running 1:56.81, while Vernon Smith ran a new PR of 2:02.00. On the women's side, Layla James ran a new lifetime best time of 2:17.10, she is very close to breaking the school record. To close out the running events, the men's 200 saw lifetime bests from each runner, Jean ran 22.49, Blunt ran 22.54, Jacobs ran 22.62, and Smith ran 24.91. Harrison closed out the meet with discus, where he placed third, with a throw of 45.72m which would be the fourth furthest throw in the conference.
Next Up: The Battlers are at home for the Battler Collegiate Invitational on Saturday April 22. The meet gets underway at 10 AM with the men's and women's javelin. This will be the last regular season meet of the year before the Battlers head to the Conference Championship.
