Alderson Broaddus University announces Battlers fall to Cardinals in Doubleheader
The Alderson Broaddus Softball team took on the Wheeling Cardinals on March 16th for a doubleheader. The Battlers traveled to Wheeling where they took the loss in both games.
Game 1: The Battlers took an early lead over the Cardinals scoring one run in the top of the 1st with an RBI by Courtney Fize. Wheeling would fight back in the bottom of the 1st with 2 runs. The Cardinals would keep the Battlers at bay for the next two innings while taking another run of their own.
In the top of the 4th, Breonna Mari doubled to center field to score Gravce Sobeck to cut the lead to 1. Heather Barl pinch hit for Hailee Culbertson and singled to center field to bring home Breonna Mari and tie the game at 3. The lead would not last long as Wheeling would score 1 in the bottom of the 4th.
Wheeling would score a run in the bottom of the 5th and 2 in the 6th to take the 7-3 win over AB.
AB was led by Angelina Borja with a single and a double, Breonna Marietta with a double, and Grace Sobeck, Lakyn Blackburn, and Heather Barlage with a single each.
Game 2: The second game started slow for both teams with no one scoring in the first 2 innings. AB would start hot in the 1st inning with a single by Angelina Bor and an HBP, However, the Batters would be unable to bring home a run in the 1st.
The scoring would not begin until the bottom of the 3rd with Wheeling bringing home 2 runs. Wheeling would tack on one more run at the bottom of the 4th. The score would remain 3-0 for the remainder of the game to seal the sweep for Wheeling.
The Battlers were led by Angelina Borgia and Meadow Uncapher with 2 singles each. Franchesca Alvaro pitched the entire game for the Battlers.
The Battlers will take on West Liberty in a doubleheader for their home opener on March 19th. The first pitch for the games will be at 1 pm and 3 pm.
