The Lady Braves Softball team started off strong against the Lions of Southeastern Louisiana. Unfortunately, perfectly timed hits by SLU and unforced errors caused Alcorn to lose both games of its Tuesday doubleheader. The Lady Braves fell 5-3 in the first contest and 13-4 in game two.

GAME ONEThe Lions collected three runs in the second inning to lead the Lady Braves 3-0. A double with just one out brought the first runner home for SLU. It was followed by a double that scored two more.

In the bottom of the third frame, Alcorn put up its first runs of the contest. Jillian Walters made it to first on a single and was pushed to second on a fielder's choice. A ground out put Walters on a third, and a single by Kristian Edwards brought Walters home.

The home plate would remain untouched until the sixth inning when Southeastern Louisiana added two more runs to the board. Lexi Johnson connected for the games only homerun to score two and increase the Lions' lead to 5-2.

Not ready to give up, the Lady Braves continued to fight well into the final frame. Kelsey Lockridge grabbed an extra base on a double to left field, and a single by Walters put her in scoring position at third. Jamyiyah Cotton then singled through the right side to bring Lockridge home for a final score of 5-3.

Walters led Alcorn at the plate with a 2-for-3 with one run. Edwards went 1-for-3 for two RBIs, and Marsha Hunt, Lockridge, and Cotton connected for one hit each against the SLU bullpen.

Alexa Veamoi started the contest in the circle for the loss. The hurler threw for 5.1 innings with two strikeouts, 10 hits against, and five earned runs.

GAME TWO

Alcorn watched the game slip away early and could not recover after Southeastern Louisiana put up six runs in the opening frame. The Lions added an additional run in the second inning and quickly gained a 7-0 lead over the Lady Braves.

SLU added four in the top of the third, but Alcorn put up two in the bottom of the inning to trail 11-2. Kiri Parker made it took first on balls and advanced to second on a wild pitch. A second walk by Kennedy Terry placed runners on second and first. Another wild pitch gave Parker and Terry one base, and a double from Hannah Miller scored them both.

In the fifth and final inning, both teams added two runs. Southeastern Louisiana scored on a double and a single. Miller and Lockridge scored on a fielding error for the Lady Braves after Edwards reached base on a single, and Miller got on first via walk. Alcorn loses game two 13-4.

Parker took the loss in the circle. She threw 3.0 innings for two strikeouts, 11 runs (eight earned), three walks, and 10 hits.

The Lady Braves return to conference competition on Friday, March 31, for the first of three games versus Prairie View A&M. The first pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
