Alcorn State University announces Andonov, Sohmer Take Doubles Contest, Braves Fall at UNO

NEW ORLEANS – The Alcorn men's tennis team suffered a setback on Tuesday afternoon in New Orleans after dropping a 7-0 decision to the University of New Orleans in midweek action. Following the loss, the Braves fell to 2-13 on the season, while the Privateers improved to 6-4.
Luka Andonov and Arne Sohmer won their doubles match against Karim Al-Amin and Matthew Armbruster, 6-4, but the Privateers claimed the other matches for the doubles point.
In the singles contest, UNO garnered two points after back-to-back points due to opponent retirement.
Mihajlo Drobnjakovic broke through late in the first set against Isaac Santitto. Then, Drobnjakovic carried the momentum over to win the second set by a single break in a 6-4, 6-4 victory. Max Heinzel did not drop a game in singles as he won 6-0, 6-0. Luke Joujan won a first-set tiebreak on his way to a straight-set decision. Lilian Dubois only lost three games against Sohmer in his singles match to win 6-2, 6-1.
Alcorn returns to action on Sunday, March 12, when they take on Alabama A&M in the second SWAC Pod of the season. The first serve is set for 2 p.m.
