Albright College announces Lewman & Tesoriere Lead Baseball to Game 1 Win; Splits with Alvernia

READING, Pa. – The Albright baseball team (4-19, 2-13 MAC Commonwealth) won game one 3-2 over Alvernia (17-9, 11-4 MAC Commonwealth) courtesy of strong play on the defensive side of the ball and timely hitting on the offensive side. The Lions dropped game to the Golden Wolves 7-0.
GAME 1: W, 3-2
In the top of the first inning Albright put two runs on the board thanks to a Tommy Lewman long ball. Lewman got the pitch he was looking for and crushed it over the center field fence. Lewman's two run shot is his second of the year and gave the Lions a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.
John O'Connor got the start in game one for Albright and was masterful through 5 1/3 innings of work. O'Connor did not allow a hit until one out in the fourth keeping the Alvernia bats at bay. O'Connor's final line comes in at 5 1/3 innings, four strikeouts and two earned runs.
The Lions stretched their lead to 3-0 in the bottom of the second taking advantage of miscues by the Alvernia defense. Deklyn Marks reached on a throwing error and would later come around to score on another error from Alvernia.
The Golden Wolves added a run in the fourth and sixth innings to cut into the Albright lead making it a 3-2 ball game.
The same score held until the seventh inning. Nicolas Natalie came on in relief and got the final five outs for Albright but not without a little help from his defense.
made a beautiful diving catch for the second out of the inning and preserving the 3-2 lead.
After an Alvernia walk to load the bases, Tesoriere was called on again this time ending the game for Albright. Tesoriere ranged slightly to his right working back towards the fence and made a running grab up against the wall for the games final out.
O'Connor got the win for Albright moving him to 1-1 on the season. Natalie earned the save for the Lions, marking the first save of the year and career for the first-year pitcher.
Roman Berretta went 2-2 with a run scored and walk in game one.
GAME 2: L, 7-0
The Golden Wolves jumped out to a 3-0 lead over the Lions in the top of the first inning.
Berretta followed up his strong game one with base hit in the home half of the first inning. Across the two games Berretta went 3-4 with a walk and a run scored. The designated hitters average now sits at .338 for the Lions.
Alvernia scored four runs across the last two innings and won going away 7-0.
Nick Barton and Marks each produced a hit in game two, recording one single each.

Albright will be back at home this Friday, April 7 squaring off with Messiah in a single nine inning game. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.
