Albion College announces Three selected as MIAA Athletes of the Week

LANSING, Mich. – Following a phenomenal week in Albion College athletics, three Britons have been chosen as the MIAA Athletes of the Week. Basketball's Fred Garland, track and field's Tess Anthony and swim and dive's Justin Huttenlocher all received the award.
Garland was unstoppable in the men's basketball team's 2-0 week. In Wednesday's 87-69 win over Alma, the junior recorded a triple double with 21 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists. On Saturday, Garland scored a career-high 30 points in a 79-78 road win against Hope. In that game, he was an efficient 9-10 from the free throw line.
Garland and the men's basketball team travels to Trine on Wednesday for a 7:30 p.m. contest.
Anthony won the weight throw at the Wittenberg Steemer Showcase on Saturday with a career-long throw of 15.46 meters. It was one of the biggest meets of the season that featured heavy talent from around the region. The sophomore also placed in the shot put, taking eighth with a throw marking 10.93 meters, earning her Female Field Athlete of the Week.
Anthony and the indoor track and field teams return to action on
Huttenlocher claimed his fourth MIAA Diver of the Week honor after qualifying for Regionals on Saturday. In the win over Olivet, he scored a 294.98 in the 1-meter dive. The senior followed up his performance with a 301.44 in the 3-meter dive.
The swim and dive teams will compete at the MIAA Championships Feb. 16-19 at Calvin University.
