Albion College announces Three receive MIAA Athlete of the Week award

LANSING, Mich. – Megan McCulloch, Brett Gurzell and Eddie Symons have all been named the MIAA Athlete of the Week in their respective sports, as announced on Monday afternoon.
McCulloch claimed the Women's Track Athlete of the Week award following a monstrous performance at the WashU Distance Carnival. In the 5,000 meter run, McCulloch shattered the school record by 10 seconds, running a 17:01.89.
The senior will be in action on Friday when Albion hosts a track and field triangular with Alma and Trine.
Gurzell was named the Men's Tennis AOTW for the second consecutive week after going 2-0 in conference play. At first doubles, he won 8-2 before winning a 6-4, 6-1 match at first singles. The senior is currently 2-0 in conference play in singles and 2-0 in MIAA action in doubles.
Gurzell and the men's tennis team will host Kalamazoo on Wednesday for a 4 p.m. match.
Symons earned his second Defensive Athlete of the Week honor after one of the most incredible performances from the faceoff X. In Saturday's 25-15 throttling of Southwestern, the senior went 38 for 41 from the X and picked up 31 ground balls. The 31 ground balls set a new Albion single game record, breaking the previous record set in 2018.
The men's lacrosse team will host North Central on Wednesday evening for a 7 p.m. contest.
