Albion College announces Hines, Conley claim MIAA Athlete of the Week honors
LANSING, Mich. – Eddie Hines and Jace Conley have been named the MIAA Athletes of the Week, as announced on Monday afternoon. Hines was selected as the Men's Field Athlete, as Conley picked up another Men's Lacrosse Offensive honor.
At the Gibson Invite, Hines placed in the top five in all three events he competed in. In the discus, Hines took second, recording a new personal best of 45.29 meters. He added a third place performance in the shot put with a mark of 15.15 meters. In the hammer throw, Hines finished fifth with a throw of 47.79 meters.
He currently ranks 40th nationally in the shot put. Hines and the track and field teams will continue to prepare for the MIAA Championships, held at Olivet College May 4-5.
The men's lacrosse team went 2-1 last week, including a perfect 2-0 mark in conference play. Conley surpassed the 400 career points mark – the first player in Albion history to reach the accomplishment. At Trine on Tuesday, the fifth year senior scored eight goals and dished out two assists while picking up four ground balls.
In Friday's dominant win over Adrian, Conley netted a hat trick while recording four assists. At No. 16 Denison, he scored a team-high seven goals. He ranks fourth in NCAA DIII in goals per game (4.43) and Albion as a team is fifth nationally with 18.27 goals per game.
Conley and the men's lacrosse team heads to Kalamazoo Wednesday for a 7 p.m. faceoff.
