Alabama A & M University announces Women’s Tennis Splits Pair of Matches in SWAC Tennis Pod

MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- Alabama A&M women's tennis (6-8) split two matches to start the weekend in the SWAC Tennis Pod, starting with a 4-1 loss to Florida A&M to end a four-game SWAC winning streak. They followed on Saturday with a 4-2 win over Prairie View A&M.

The Bulldogs dropped the doubles point to start the match, as Deja Brown and Camila Ruiz Diaz fell on court two 6-4, before Neha Ghare and Alicia Owegi lost 6-2 on court three. Jasmine Boyd and Yana Dhamija was leading their pairing 5-4 on court one at the conclusion of doubles play.

Florida A&M continued their strong effort in the singles bouts, as Boyd won the lone point for the Bulldogs on court one by opponent retirement after leading 6-2, 3-0.

Singles courts two and six were straight set losses from Brown 6-2, 6-3 and Owegi 6-2, 6-3, while at court five, Dhamija dropped a hard-fought 7-5, 3-6, 2-6 match to conclude on Friday.

Alabama A&M dropped the doubles point in their match on Saturday, as Boyd and Dhamija fell 6-3 at No. 1 before Brown and Ruiz Diaz fell at No. 2. Ghare and Owegi were leading 5-4 before the point was secured by the Panthers.

The Bulldogs flipped the script in singles play, as the team only dropped a point on court one. Owegi earned a win by default at court six, while Ghare and Dhamija took wins in straight sets at courts four and five respectively.

Brown was the last point on the day at the No. 2 flight, taking a 6-2, 6-2 win.

The Bulldogs will face off against Alcorn State for their final game of the Tennis Pod on Sunday, set for a 9 a.m. start.
