Adrian College announces Bulldogs Win Four MIAA Weekly Honors

HUDSONVILLE, Mich. – The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) announced its Athletes of the Week on Monday afternoon. Adrian College earned four Athletes of the Week including Mey Sun and Melaina Springer sweeping the women's lacrosse awards while Hendrik de Koning was name Men's Golfer of the Week and Edward Wagner of the Adrian College baseball team earned Position Player of the Week.
Melaina Springer was named the Offensive Player of the Week by the MIAA. She led the women's lacrosse team to a 15-14 double overtime victory over Concordia University Ann Arbor. She totaled five goals with two assists for seven total points including the game winning goal. She racked up ten shots on the afternoon with seven landing on goal. In addition to her scoring, she picked up eight ground balls and caused a pair of turnovers.
Mey Sun was named the Defensive Player of the Week for women's lacrosse. She scored a goal with an assist last Monday for two points. Her only shot on goal resulted in a goal for the Bulldogs giving them a 1-0 lead. Sun added five ground balls on the day with a team-high three caused turnovers.
Hendrik de Koning was named the Men's Golfer of the Week by the MIAA after winning the Bluffton Spring Invite. de Koning led the Bulldogs to their first tournament win of the season. de Koning began the day with a double bogey on the first hole, but was lights out the rest of the day. He finished -1 on the front nine with the help of a birdie and an eagle on a par 5. On the back nine, de Koning finished -2 with two birdies to shoot a 69 for the round and finish -3.
Edward Wagner was named the baseball Position Player of the Week finishing the week with five hits. He totaled six RBIs on the week including four in the MIAA opener against Calvin University on Thursday. He finished 3-for-4 that game. Earlier in the week he scored a pair of times. During his five games played he reached three times by walk and three times by hit by pitch.
