Oceanside, N.Y.  With Ilaria Ponziani leading the way, the Adelphi University women's golf team won the inaugural Panther Battle at the Bay this week at the Golf Club at Middle Bay in Oceanside.

With breathtaking views of Middle Bay, the Panthers welcomed in Dominican University, the College of Saint Rose and University of New Haven for a two-day tournament.

Ponziani led the clubhouse through Day 1 with a 3-over 75, only to improve by a mere five strokes the next with a 2-under 70. She took home her first individual title since the NE10 Championship, with a 145.

The Genova, Italy native led the field by fourteen strokes, but much of the rest of her team also placed within the Top 10.

Hannah Trinh, Amy McCaffrey, Alexis Cokinos and Emily McKenna all finished among the top-half of the leaderboard.

Trinh, McCaffrey and Cokinos each shaved strokes off their Day 1 scores and broke 90 in the process. McKenna only trailed Ponziani after carding an opening-round 81.

The Panthers will now await word on the selections for the 2023 NCAA Division II Women's Golf Championship. Ponziani is in the running for an at-large bid, following her NE10 Championship performance in the fall.
