Adelphi University announces Men's Golf Headed to Regionals for First Time Since 2013-14
Indianapolis, Ind. - With the 'Cats anxiously awaiting their fate, the Adelphi University men's golf team learned Friday that it qualified for the 2023 NCAA Atlantic and East Region Championships.
As the No. 8 seed in the East Region, the Panthers will join nine familiar regional opponents and ten schools from the Atlantic Region for a 54-hole tournament May 11-13 at Iron Valley Golf Club in Cornwall, Pa.
After nearly a 10-year hiatus, Adelphi is returning to the regional stage -- as a team -- for the first time since the 2013-14 season, when the Panthers captured their last of four NE10 titles in five seasons.
Only in his second season at the helm of the Adelphi men's golf team, David Mattana has the 'Cats eyeing the program's first-ever bid to the NCAA Division II National Championships.
"We are excited about qualifying for regionals, and are now focused on earning a Top 3 finish and an invitational to the national tournament," Mattana said. "The boys' outstanding play last week in the preview proved they can compete with any team in the region."
Earlier this week, Adelphi went head-to-head with sixteen of the twenty teams that make up the current tournament field at the NCAA Atlantic & East Regional Preview at Iron Valley.
Highlighted by a second-place finish from Filip Wetterqvist, the Brown and Gold tied for fifth and finished better than twelve teams encompassing this year's NCAA field in the process.
