Bloomfield, Conn. - The Adelphi University men's golf team produced quite a debut to its spring season at AIC's Yellow Jacket Invitational on Monday and Tuesday at Wintonbury Hills Golf Course.

Even with a six-stroke lead after their opening round, the Panthers were unable to hold off a rally from Dominican College -- which shaved thirteen shots off its first-round 294 to win the tournament by a single stroke.

Dominican's lead golfer Alejandro Gomez, who shot 11-over on Day 1, keyed the comeback with a 6-under 64 over the final 18 holes that included an eagle at the fourth.

Sophomore Alec Ramos was among the clubhouse leaders through the opening 18 with a score of even par. After sinking three birdies in his first round, Ramos added seven strokes to his two-day 147 with eight bogeys. Ramos' classmate Mason Rivera joined him in a tie for 11th place with a 7-over 147.

Meanwhile, Francis Lanuza improved seven places from Day 1 and captured a second-place finish with an even 140 through 36 holes. His career-best 3-under 67 on the back 18 included five birdies and a steady dose of pars. The freshman set the tone for his tremendous round with a birdie on the opening hole.

Despite carding a double bogey on two holes, Filip Wetterqvist hung right around par on both days and finished in a tie for seventh among a field of 55 golfers with a 145.

Head Coach David Mattana and the 'Cats have a quick turnaround to get ready for the STAC Spartan Shootout on Friday (Apr. 7) at Rotella Memorial Golf Course.
