Middle Tennessee State University announces Akintola Qualifies for The NCAA Outdoor Championships

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Middle Tennessee men's and women's track and field teams wrapped up the NCAA East Preliminaries at Hodges stadium in Jacksonville, Florida.
 
Alaba Akintola punched his ticket to Austin, Texas to compete in the NCAA Outdoor Championships by qualifying for the men's 100-meter and 200-meter Semi-finals.
 
Men's Top Performances

· Alaba Akintola placed fourth in the men's 200-meter quarterfinals with a personal best time of 20.03s. In the 100m quarterfinals he ran a time of 10.08s to qualify.
· Stephen Eloji ran a time of 13.60s in the men's 110-meter Hurdles first round to qualify for the quarterfinals where he ran a 13.78s.
· Carmelo Cannizzaro ran in the men's 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:01.64s

"Our guys performed fantastic with some of the best competition in the country. Alaba making it in two events is very hard to do but he is consistent which pays off in competition. Stephen ran one of the toughest races on the track with the wind gusting. Carmelo finished off the season with one of his best races, coming into the competition at 47th and finishing 25th."

Akintola will compete in The NCAA Outdoor Championships that will be held in Austin, Texas from June 7-10.
