Lawrence University announces Offensive outburst nets Perez Player of the Week honor
From April 3, 2023 post.
APPLETON, Wis. -- Lawrence University baseball standout Edan Perez has been named the Midwest Conference Offensive Player of the Week following a prolific performance.
Perez (Manteno, Ill./Manteno) tied a Lawrence record and helped the team set another school record in a weekend series at Grinnell College.
The sophomore infielder tied the school record with three home runs in Lawrence's 18-17 victory over Grinnell in the series finale on Sunday. Perez went 3-for-6, scored three runs and drove in a career-best seven runs. Perez's three home runs ties the record held by Kevin Fitzsimmons, who did it last in 2006, Elliot Stith (1994) and Lawrence Hall of Famer Steve Blomberg (1972). The seven RBIs ties the third-most in a game in Lawrence history.
Perez hit a hit a three-run blast in the fifth inning, blasted a solo shot in the eighth and then smacked another three-run homer in the ninth. Lawrence scored five times in the ninth to rally from a four-run deficit.
The Vikings finished with seven home runs to top the team record of six in a game set against Ripon College in 2022.
For the week, Perez hit .467 by going 7-for-15 in the three games against Grinnell. He posted a 1.067 slugging percentage and had an impressive 1.534 OPS.
This is the first Player of the Week honor for Perez and the second conference weekly award of the season for the Vikings. Quinn Berglin was named MWC Pitcher of the Week in February.
Lawrence returns to action on Wednesday when the Vikings travel to Ripon College.
