APPLETON, Wis. -- Lawrence University baseball standout Quinn Berglin was chosen as Midwest Conference Pitcher of the Week following a dominant performance at Illinois College.
Berglin (Pewaukee, Wis./Pewaukee) tossed a one-hitter in the series opener at Illinois College on April 15. The junior right-hander allowed just a fourth-inning single in Lawrence's 5-1 victory over the Blueboys.
Berglin struck out a season-high nine and walked two as he threw the first one-hitter for Lawrence since Josh Richie did it against Fredonia State University on March 25, 2006. The only runner to advance past second base was the one who scored for the Blueboys.
Berglin improved to 2-0 on the season and lowered his earned run average to 3.63. In 22.1 innings, Berglin has struck out 22 and walked six while holding opponents to a .148 batting average.
This is the second MWC Pitcher of the Week honor this season for Berglin. He was chosen back on Feb. 27 after beating Otterbein University in his season debut.
Lawrence returns to action on Wednesday when the Vikings travel to Beloit College for a league doubleheader.
